Rainy day decluttering
What to do on a rainy day?
It’s raining today and everyone’s stuck inside. What are you going to do to keep the kids occupied and lift their spirits on a dull, grey day? How about a decluttering scavenger hunt? Even children can benefit from an organized space, and learning decluttering skills early will make for lifelong habits. Make it fun and non-emotional.
Five-minute challenge
Do a five-minute challenge: Find 5 things in their room that are just straight trash that can be thrown away, find 5 things that have a home somewhere else and take them there, and find 5 things that they no longer use or want that can be donated. If they have siblings, make it a race to see who can finish first. If you need a common room cleaned up, make it a race to see who can find the most things in 5 minutes. Get as much of the family involved as possible. Many hands make light work and get more done! Tweak the challenge to your family’s personality. If competition isn’t your jam, make it a collective goal to see home many items you can gather as a group. If you make it a habit, see if you can beat yesterday’s “record” number of items.
Benefits of decluttering
You would be amazed how much a 5-minute reset can transform a space and even improve your mood. So keep the kids busy, teach them life skills, and calm the stress clutter causes in your nervous system, all in 5 minutes! Make your rainy day a great day instead of just a grey day!
